Opening its doors on June 1, 1987, Hunan Children’s Hospital (hereinafter referred to as the “Hospital” ) is a  first Class III Grade I general children’s hospitals intergreting healthcare, teaching, scientific research and disease prevention.   

Furnished with 1,800 beds and staffed with over 2,000 employees, the Hospital has 32 clinical departments, 40 wards and 8 medical labs. There are 1 national clincial key specialty, 5 provinical clincial key specialties, 1 provinvial key laboratory, as well as 13 medical centers including Provinvial Children's Emergency Treatment Center, Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplant Center, Provincial Children's Heart Center, Provincial Neonatal Intensive Care Center, and Provincial Center for Diagnosis and Treatment of Children's Difficult and Rare diseases. Since 2020, the Hospital has been striving for Regional Children's Medical Center in China. 

In 2005, the Hospital successfully treated two of China’s first and youngest patients of human avianin fluenza. In 2006, China’s first extremely low birth weight infant of 500g was discharged from the Hospital. In 2009 and 2012, two separation operations of conjoined twins are performed respectively. In 2021, the Hospital requires the practice qualification for liver and kidney transplantation. Over the past two years, the Hospital has successfully carried out core technologies such as hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, ECMO , interventional diagnosis and treatment, selective dorsal root denervation, ICG fluorescence staining technology. The diagnosis and treatment  of congenital pseudarthrosis of tibia is up to advanced standard in China.

The Hospital established Pediatric Research Institute, Post-Doctoral Research Station and School of Pediatrics. It is the postgraduate training base of Jinan University. So far there are 11 doctoral supervisors and 51 doctors in the Hospital. As the only pediatrics China-aid training unit in China, the Hospital takes the initiative to establish the Children Healthcare Collaboration Alliance for Developing Countries. It is the  member of China-CEEC Hospital Cooperation Alliance, International Urolithiasis Union Children's Urolithiasis Prevention&Control Center, and Training Hub of Maternal and Child health for Belt and Road Countries. The Hospital won the“Soong Ching-ling Pediatrics Award” in 2010 and 2015. As a leading unit, the Hospital successfully completed the “National Sci-Tech Support Plan” program during the “12th Five-year Plan” in 2016. 

The Hospital strives to build a Smart Medical Platform and is one of the first Internet hospitals in the Hunan Province. By establishing Hunan Pediatric Medical Union with over 170 partner hospitals, the Hospital is advancing the building of high-quality and effective pediatric service system. By far, the Hospital has launched such charity programs as the “Smiling Angel Tour to Tibet”, “Love and Blessed Children’s Heart”, “Tomorrow’s Plan”,and “Decibels of Angels”. Furthermore, the Hospital has won such national honors as an “Advanced Collective of National Health System”,“Advanced Collective of National Medicine and Health System”, “National May 1st Labor Award”, “National May 1st Women’s Model” and “Pioneer Worker”.
